WHEN SHOULD YOU PREPARE YOUR PLUMBING SYSTEM FOR SPRING?

As the days get warmer and longer, we know what that means – spring is almost here! For this reason, we believe now’s the perfect opportunity to utilize Centerville Plumbing & Drain‘s tips, so you know how to proactively prepare your plumbing system before spring officially arrives. There’s no better time than now to make sure that all of your plumbing work is in tip-top shape for this upcoming season.

WHAT STEPS SHOULD YOU TAKE TO ENSURE THAT YOUR PLUMBING SYSTEM IS READY FOR THE WELCOMING OF EARLY SPRING?

  1. INSPECT THE FAUCETS & SINKS: To keep your sinks and faucets in tip-top shape, it’s essential to make sure you’re giving them regular once-overs each season. Leaks or damage to the fixtures is much easier to fix if they haven’t gone undetected for too long. Additionally, you will want to take a peek under the sink, as corroded pipes or rusty fixtures should be taken care of immediately. Taking these simple steps will mean better performance from your plumbing year-round.
  1. INSPECT THE TOILETS: Beware of leaky toilets! If these problems are not dealt with quickly and efficiently, they can evolve and grow into larger, more costly issues. So, be observant with any water pooling around your toilet or an incessantly running toilet should be a big warning sign that something’s amiss.
  1. INSPECT THE OUTDOOR FAUCETS: Ensure that your outdoor faucets are in top shape as well. You may hear some strange noises as you turn them on, like a popping or rushing sound. But rest assured, this is typical and should cease shortly. Allow a few moments for the water to continue running before turning off the tap. Afterward, linger around for a couple of minutes to make sure there aren’t any leaks or drops coming from it.
  1. INSPECT THE WATER HOSES: As the temperatures swing from cold to warm in transitioning seasons, it is imperative for our customers to examine their water hoses before reattaching them to outdoor fixtures. You should look for any rips, tears, or cracks. These would indicate your water hose isn’t safe to use anymore. If you notice any damaged areas on it, replace it straight away.
  1. INSPECT THE SUMP PUMP: As spring cleaning season is upon us, don’t forget to give your sump pump some attention too! If you are unfamiliar with how to clean your sump pump, check out the owner’s manual or reach out to us for a list of our services. Our specialists are always available and eager to help in any way they can. The beginning of the season is a great opportunity for a thorough cleanse of your sump pump.
  1. INSPECT THE MAIN WATER VALVE: Don’t forget to inspect your main water valve, especially if it has been some time since you last turned it off. Just close and open the valve clockwise, then counterclockwise in order to make sure your shut-off is fully functional – meaning it can be turned off and back on again. In an emergency, this fixture must be easy to use without any issues. So, upgrading is a good idea should you experience problems operating said fixture. Taking proactive measures such as these can help avert future catastrophes from transpiring.

As you prepare your home for the early spring season, make sure to keep these plumbing tips in mind.
