WHY COMPLETE A FALL PLUMBING MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST?

Fall is so refreshing! The leaves are beautiful and colorful, the weather is perfect, and there are so many fun-filled fall festivities waiting to be partaken of. We hope you are enjoying the season and everything that comes along with it. But take note, as you actively enjoy these activities, you shouldn’t forget about the seasonal responsibilities that accompany being a homeowner. We believe that having and following a fall plumbing maintenance checklist is a great way to maximize your house’s plumbing to its highest capacity. So, join your Centerville Plumbing & Drain licensed plumbers as we walk you through a few ideas.

WHAT SHOULD BE ON YOUR FALL PLUMBING MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST?

  • NUMBER 1: WHAT ABOUT PIPE INSULATION? Winters in Ohio get so cold! So, one thing to remember is your plumbing fixtures and pipes. If you have any pipes that are located in an open space (such as a basement, garage, or even a crawlspace), it’s wise to use pipe insulation on your pipes. Fall is a fantastic time to tackle this as a plumbing project before winter comes around the corner. Luckily, your local home improvement store likely has pipe insulation kits available at an affordable price.
  • NUMBER 2: WHAT ABOUT YOUR WATER HEATER? Per industry standards, every water heater should have a yearly inspection at least once a year. We suggest this because it ensures your water heater is functioning at its highest capacity. Furthermore, it is also the highest form of preventative maintenance you can practice as a homeowner. The most unpleasant thing one may experience is being hit with that first bit of ice-cold water just as you’re stepping into the shower. This is why regular maintenance of your water heater is essential.
  • NUMBER 3: WHAT ABOUT FAUCET LEAKS? Because the weather is optimal at the moment, you should take on the task now of inspecting your faucets and fixtures for leaks or drippage. Weather will start to drop even further, so you shouldn’t put off inspecting your home for leaks and drips. Therefore, you should act proactively and stay ahead of the game at all times.
  • NUMBER 4: WHAT ABOUT YOUR GARDEN HOSE? Yardwork – is it something you enjoy? If it’s not something you enjoy, then the good news is that the fall season won’t require a lot of lawn and yard maintenance like it does in the summertime. This season is the time when yard and lawn tools are put away. But we are here to remind you not to forget about your garden hose too. Garden hoses are often forgotten about, but they are imperative to remember because you don’t want the frigid temperatures to burst your water hose. So, be sure to disconnect it, drain it, and put it up for the season.
  • NUMBER 5: WHAT ABOUT THE OUTDOOR FAUCETS? This last step lines up with our point listed above. Think about those outdoor faucets and fixtures too! If your house has multiple faucets outdoors, don’t forget to inspect them and make sure they are turned off. We do suggest checking them even if you have not used them recently. It’s better to be safe than sorry, and double-check them now!
  • NUMBER 6: WHAT ABOUT YOUR GUTTERS? Fall leaves will quickly pile up in your gutters during the fall season. When this occurs, it can turn into an unpleasant pile of muck, which leads to created obstructions in your gutters. You can decrease the chances of this occurring by clearing out loose leaves and other debris from your gutters.
